Problem Note 41729: Syntax error might be received when using the SAS/GRAPH® Statistical Graphics procedures SGPLOT, SGPANEL, and SGSCATTER

DetailsAboutRate It

The following messages might be received when using the SAS/GRAPH Statistical Graphics procedures SGPLOT, SGPANEL, and SGSCATTER:

NOTE 49-169: The meaning of an identifier after a quoted string may change in a future SAS release. Inserting white space between a quoted string and the succeeding identifier is recommended. ERROR 772-580: Syntax error: expecting a constant or a dynamic.

The problem is most likely to occur when using a TITLE or a FOOTNOTE statement that contains a double quote character inside single quotes. For example:

TITLE 'This is a " in a title';

To circumvent the problem, change the quotes so that the text of the title is contained in double quotes and the quote mark in the text is a single quote. For example:

TITLE "This is a ' in a title";
